Yay! In a few more months, it will be end of the year, and Singapore kids love these the most… It’s school holidays! There will be 1 entire month of holidays they can look forward too!
Most people love holidays so much because they can really go out and play. After all, they have studied so hard for the past 11 months, and have even did well for exams. Shouldn’t the kids have the time off too? Like to go theme parks, travel overseas for holidays, or even just play games everyday, right?
On the other hand… there’s a different school of thought.
Holidays is a period where you take a break, to prepare yourself for the harsh curriculum next year! Whatever you have studied this year… is already over! What’s coming ahead of you, will be more difficult. Your subjects will be tougher. Whatever marks you did well in your exams is irrelevant, because you will not do that well again if you did not start now!
Wow. Sounds so depressing if you go holidays instead of study more during your holidays right?
So which is right?
Escape to other parts of the world to enjoy…
Or to Educate for the next year?
There’s no right or wrong answers.
Why not both? Why not have fun, and study at the same time? You have 1 month to do both, so go for it!
If you want to pursue a new hobby, such as playing the piano, go for it as well!
Do not restrict yourself to learning your school academic curriculum during holidays. It is a time for you to explore more, to discover more, at no risk! It’s the end of the year holidays too, not September holidays where you need to sacrifice your holidays to prepare final year exams in 1 month time.
So if you’d like to learn piano, just tell your parents you want to learn, and they will help you kick start Singapore piano lessons for you.
If you want to explore sports, like playing football, just do it! You may not be a football star, at least you discover your passion. That’s better than watching TV at home the whole day.
If you want to do part-time work and earn some pocket money, go for it too! You have to work for whatever you want. Maybe a new playstation, or new computer for games, 1 month of part-time job may get you that.
So there are so many things you can do.
It is not an ‘Either Or’ question.
Make it a “Why NOT” question! Why can’t you do this, why can’t you do that?
Just go for it!
And if you’re talking about overseas holidays, there’s so much more things you can learn as well, not just about playing. If you need ideas about locations, do check out Travel Yourself Today and share it with your parents.
Singapore parents and kids are in the constant rush to excel in academics. School holidays is here, but they rush to sign up their kids for more tuition programs, more enrichment programs to prepare kids for the next year, for the next year…and so on.
This chase never seems to end. Everything seems to structured. The kids are in constant squeezing and filling of knowledge we want them to absorb. Not knowledge they WANT to absorb. Yes, we kind of like force feeding them what we want them to learn, even during Holidays!
We should be less stressed up. We should let go more.
Let them explore their own interests. Let me find their own passion. Let them do things they like!
So what are you doing these coming holidays!?
